I have been a dog person all my life. I currently have five dogs. All rescues. In May of 2021, I stumbled across an (MCP) MCP Rescue and Outreach post on social media featuring a blind pit puppy named Juno. As a result of abuse, Juno had suffered serious injuries which included needing surgery to remove her eyes. MCP provided all necessary medical and surgical care, and was seeking a forever home for Juno. I browsed back on the thread and was mesmerized by the extensive levels that MCP had gone through on behalf of rescuing and caring for Juno while fostering her in advance of placing her in a forever home. Juno’s story was heartbreaking and awe-inspiring at the same time. MCP stressed “serious inquiries only”. I was so touched by Juno’s story that I decided to apply to adopt her and provide her forever home. I submitted my application accordingly. Immediately upon applying, I was contacted by Marta Kenar. Marta informed me that MCP took their applications very seriously and would not rush placement of Juno or any of their rescued dogs. I was impressed by Marta’s level of commitment toward finding Juno the best home possible. After a couple weeks that included two extensive phone conversations, Marta and foster-dad Scott, made the three-hour drive out to visit me and introduce Juno. No promises for placement were made. That day will forever be one of the most magical days I can recall. Marta, Scott, and Juno spent several hours on my farm meeting each of my dogs, one by one, and getting to know me. The time flew, and we had a wonderful day. After several hours, Marta informed me that I would thereby be approved for adopting Juno. I was thrilled and humbled, and we celebrated by hitting a local pub for dinner together.
One year later, Juno is thriving in my pack, and Marta is a forever friend. Marta has continued to check in on us, and has provided unprecedented support well beyond “follow-up protocol”. I will be a “forever patron” of MCP, and a “forever friend” to Marta Kenar. This brief testimonial barely scratches the surface of my respect, love, and appreciation for Marta as a person, and MCP as an organization.
